Michael Walter studied Fine Art for seven years, completing a Postgraduate course at the Slade School of Art in 1991. He undertook a photographic apprenticeship on Living Marxism (LM) magazine, which took him to Bosnia, Croatia and Serbia in 1992-3 during the Yugoslav War. He then freelanced for the Press Association, where he was commissioned to photograph the new Jubilee Line Extension underground stations and this was exhibited at The Royal National Theatre in 2000.

In July of the same year, with picture editor Bridget Coaker, Michael set up the photographic agency Troika Photos. Through Troika he is published in the UK and international press; recent commercial work has included shooting print and billboard adverts for Eurostar promoting the new international service from St. Pancras.

Michael has returned many times to Former Yugoslavia; worked in Iraq during and after the 2003 war; in Iran covering the Bam earthquake and in North Africa. His latest projects have been in the UK. Among them was a commission from Blueprint Magazine looking at the post war urban landscape of Slough, which resulted in the exhibition 'Unexpected Slough'. In 2008 two of his prints were shown in the Royal Academy Summer Exhibition.

Troika's newest venture will launch in the spring.
